Industrial Style Mudroom Locker System

Industrial style is chic and awesome for DIYers who are already more accustomed to shopping at the hardware store than the regular home furnishings store. When our guest today needed some mudroom-esque organizing, she knew she wanted industrial and something classic that she could use for years, even after the kids outgrew it. The solution? An awesome mudroom locker system!

Build an Industrial Mudroom Locker System by Allison from Two Thirty-Five Designs

Hey there Remodelaholic Readers! I am Allison from Two Thirty~Five Designs, where I blog about DIY, Design, a bit of Food, Fashion and what I am currently craving. Lately, I have desperate for a storage place for the kids backpacks and sports equipment. Their bags are heavy and I knew a hook on the wall wouldn’t hold it. Plus, we wanted them somewhere around the kitchen so that in the craziness of the mornings, all of the stuff would be in one place.

All along I wanted something industrial looking….something I could reuse again and again, not just for the kids, but even in an office or craft room one day. I have had my eye on lockers for a while, but the shipping gets pretty high, so after a quick google, I found some a few blocks away….so began a little project.

I knew I wanted a ‘casing’ of some sort, didn’t want them just sitting on the floor, but wanted it open and airy, and not to take up too much space.

We have a walk way, so to speak, in our kitchen, that leads into the dining. There is a small 3 foot wall right off of the pantry. Even though I didn’t want to take up that space, since the stove is directly across from it, it really worked out well. The lockers (three put together) are 3 1/2 foot wide, 4 foot tall and 12 inches deep. And they have sat on the floor for months till I walked into Lowes Home Improvement yesterday and went straight to the plumbing section. I hardly ever measure, I laid it out in the basket after the employees had come by 2897492 times and asked if I needed help, or if I knew what i was doing. Duh…only till they walked off I would mouth ehhh, no. This took right at an hour to assemble (minus the hours to scrape stickers off….no comment). Cut and Sealed the wood, one of the fastest project I have ever done.

Supplies:

(Everything was 1/2″ in width) 4 Floor Flanges 4 1 1/2 inch Steel Pipe Nipple 18-12 inch rods 8-24 inch rods 16-T’s 4-Elbows One plank cut down to size   Screw in the four 1 1/2 inch steel pipe nipples into the floor flanges. Attach four T’s to the other end of the steel nipple.     Make a bottom rail:

Attach a 12 inch pipe, a T, a 12 inch pipe, a T, and another 12 inch pipe to the floor flange with the T.

Make another bottom rail and attach the two together with two 12 inch pipes in the middle.

Add on 4 of the 24 inch pieces to the end T’s, going straight up. Add four more T’s on top of the 24 inch pipes, and connect the 12 inch pipes in the middle.

I decided to throw one locker in, just to measure before I completed everything.

Add the last of the 24 inch pipes and top those off with the four elbows. To make the top piece, it is the exact same as the bottom, just using the elbows instead of T’s on the four corners.

If you didn’t have your piece of wood pre-cut, cut it down to size and stain/seal.

Attached the wood, moved the frame inside and set everything together. viola. Not just a locker system, but a shelf for our keys and made a magnetic space for our calendar and such.

All said and done, this was probably one of the fastest projects I have completed, and we love the storage! Maybe it will give you some new ideas for storage options in your neck of the woods!
