DIY Wall Shelves and Timely Life Hacks
It’s Friday yet again, and a new month on top of that. Spring is peeking through the snow and I can’t wait for the flowers to start to bloom again. In the meantime, this week we’ve picked a few indoor projects to share in this week’s Friday Favorites and Remodelaholics Anonymous link up, including some beautiful DIY wall shelves, plus some smart “hacks” to make life a little easier.
If you have a blog, you can link up your latest and greatest below, and if not, drop us a line here or message us on Facebook because we love to see what you’re working on!

Favorite new paint color: There’s at least one a month 😉 So many colors, so little time! Timeless Creations refinished this antique washstand in a gorgeous color of chalk paint and now I’m dreaming of everything in teal/aqua. And that sign, too!
Favorite easy paint color trick: Everyone has their own tricks to remembering their paint colors… mine generally involves forgetting them… so I like this easy trick that While I Linger shared to keep your paint colors with you on the go!
DIY Wall Shelves
Favorite build-it-or-buy-it: We found this great industrial pipe wall shelf at a great price here, and it sparked a great discussion over on our Facebook page — when do you buy it, and when do you DIY it? (Psst, our readers also turned us on to this great option at Hobby Lobby!)
Which leads to our…
Favorite built-it: Our reader Beth built this gorgeous set of shelves using 1890 barn wood and brackets like these from Hobby Lobby. So drool-worthy! And did you notice the wall treatment, too?! A beautiful space, Beth!
Favorite hardware store hack: I love wandering the hardware store and thinking of non-conventional ways to use items as beautiful decor. Dazzle While Frazzled used metal hanger tape to create her own hanging planter!
Favorite… everything!! : I love the combination of finishes and decor in this gorgeous bathroom by @terajanelledesigns, from the lighting to the vanity to the tile. (Want to see your Instagram featured? Tag your most beautiful spaces with #imaremodelaholic)

Favorite farmhouse furniture: Our reader Doug sent us these photos of two trestle farmhouse tables he built — aren’t they stunning!
From Doug: “I made the first table with premium pine 2”X8”s 2”X10” and pine wood 4”X4” for the base. For the stain I used carbon grey and ebony. Then used an oil based satin polyurethane for its protective coat. The second table was done classic gray and ebony stain. I sanded with multiple grits, 1 coat of stain, then 2-3 coats of protective polyurethane.”
Favorite kitty DIY: As a self-proclaimed crazy cat lady, I love how easy and adorable these sleepy kitty planters by Flamingo Toes are!
Favorite space-smart shelf: Shelving is another of my big loves, and Anika’s DIY Life built this re-imagined version of a ladder shelf for her small bathroom — it’s the perfect place for some storage and a hand towel, without taking up any precious floor space!
Favorite easy IKEA hack: We’re big fans of IKEA hacks and this beautiful desk by Dream in Color is so easy thanks to a base from our favorite Scandinavian retailer.
Favorite black and white: I’ve been binge-watching this detective show lately, so I’ve got police lingo on the brain… but this “black and white” isn’t a police cruiser 😉 This monochromatic gallery wall of family photos and geneaology charts combined with the wood-wrapped cubbies (which looks like this style IKEA hack to me!) is a personalized yet understated beautiful arrangement, and these frames will go up lickety-split fast with our easy gallery wall hanging tips we shared last week. Favorite Easter basket hack: The Heathered Nest used a bandana to create a liner for a basket, which makes a smart budget-friendly fix since I see “naked” wicker baskets at the thrift store all the time.
I'm Emily and I share my ideas to celebrate and create over at The Benson Street.
Thank you for featuring my Hanging Orb Planter. Much appreciated!
Thanks for sharing your projects every week, Victoria!
