5 Braid Hairstyles

The braided hairstyle is making a comeback. The best part is it keeps long hair from turning into fly away hair, while adding sophistication to any hairstyle. So channel your inner Katniss Everdeen and check out these 5 braid hairstyles.

Multi-Braided Bun

Section hair and create four braids, two braids using hair from the sides, starting at the top, and two braids from the bottom middle portion of the hair. Simply wrap one of the middle section braids into a bun, and then twist the other middle braid around the bun. Take the two side braids and add them to the bun, leaving a portion of the two braids visible along the sides of the head. Secure the bun with bobby pins.

Braid Integrated into a Bun

Divide hair into a front and back section. Gather the back section into a ponytail and secure with an elastic band. Take one section of the front portion of hair and two sections of hair from the ponytail and braid it together. Continue braiding and added in more sections of hair from the ponytail and the front portion as the hair curves around the head into a large bun. Finish braiding any hair left and tuck into the bun. Add a pin to keep the ends in place.

Wrap Around Braid

Braid the sides of hair on both sides. Leave the rest of the hair down. Add a few soft curls for a romantic vibe. Cross the two braids around the back of the head, tuck the ends under and pin into place.

Fishtail Braid

Separate hair into two sections. Take a skinny piece of hair from the outside of one section of hair, and cross it over to the other section of hair. Merge the skinny piece with the hair; do not leave it separate. Next take another skinny piece of hair from the outside of the other section of hair, and move it together with the first section of hair. The skinny pieces should now look like an x in the hair. Repeat until the braid is complete.

Waterfall Braid

This creates a braid around the head with the rest of the hair remaining down. Starting near your hairline on one side begin with three piece of hair like you are going to do a French braid. Braid the hair for about a few inches then drop the middle piece to hang down with the rest of your hair, at about your part line grab another piece of hair to replace it. Repeat braiding a few inches, dropping a piece of hair to blend in with the rest of your hair, replacing it with another piece of hair, and continuing. When you get to your opposite ear, do a normal braid for about an inch, and then secure in place with a bobby pin.
